I recently sat down with one of my children to address the issue of correctability. All I had to do was look at one chapter of Proverbs – chapter 15.
Proverbs 15:5 – whoever heeds correction shows prudence.
Proverbs 15:10 – He who hates correction will die.
Proverbs 15:12 – A mocker resents correction; he will not consult the wise.
Proverbs 15:31 – He who listens to a life-giving rebuke will be at home among the wise.
Proverbs 15:32 – He who ignores discipline despises himself, but whoever heeds correction gains understanding.
And for good measure, I just came across Psalm 141:5
Let a righteous man strike me – it is a kindness, let him rebuke me – it is oil on my head. My head will not refuse it.
When was the last time you specifically invited correction in your life? When was the last time someone tried to make an observation, and you were immediately defensive?
Are your children easily corrected? Are you?
