God is a speaking God. It is good to remind our children of this. There is no difference between a God who is not there and a God who never speaks. Sometimes our children (and we) have a sense that God is silent. Yet Scripture proclaims he is there and he is not silent. The question is, “Are we listening?”
Are we listening to God in creation? – Psalm 19:1-4. The heavens declare the glory of God. The skies proclaim the work of his hand. Day after day they pour forth speech.
Are we listening to God in our conscience? – Romans 1:15. since they show that the requirements of the law are written on their hearts.
Are we listening to God through his Son? – John 1:1-2. In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God. See also Hebrews 1:2. Jesus is the highest and best revelation of God.
Are we listening to God through his Word? – 2 Timothy 3:16. All Scripture is God-breathed and useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training in righteousness.
Are we listening to God through his Spirit? – Revelation 2:7. He who has an ear, let him listen to what the Spirit is saying to the churches.
